Itasca country Club

The very first irrigation system protected by D & B was in 1992. The Itasca Country Club in Itasca Illinois, had sustained severe lightning damage to the central irrigation computer of a Toro Network 8000 system. Scott Speiden, the Superintendent, was referred to D & B by a power company service representative. D & B surveyed the course and recommended the proper grounding and protection devices. Scotty installed the equipment himself.  The following year, the course took several lightning strikes. The only damage was to the protection devices that did their job and were promptly replaced  by D & B at no charge. Scotty is pleased to say that he has not suffered any lightning damage since 1992. If you'd like to talk personally with him, he can be reached at 630-773-1800.

Harborside Golf Course

Harborside Golf Course is a 36-hole Illinois International Port District public course, built on a landfill.  It is located at 103rd and Lake Calumet. In its first year of operation in 1996 and fully protected with the D & B Protection Package, a lightning strike pierced the ground and fused the AC power line to the signal line sending 110 VAC to 13 controllers. As a result, our DLPT-10 on the input to each satellite shorted out and literally melted down. When the problem was found and corrected, all 13 controllers came back on line.  The only damage was to the 13 DLPT-10's which we replaced free of charge.  To learn more, call Pete Sinnott of ServiceScape, at 219-872-9412.

River Run Golf Course

One of our most outspoken satisfied customers is Bo Miller. He is the Superintendent of the River Run Golf Course in Davidson, North Carolina. Bo had all but given up on the continuing problem of lightning damage which had been costing him between $7,000-$10,000 per year, when Smith Turf the local Toro distributor, was approached by D & B to handle the protection package.  George Fisher of Smith Turf and D & B surveyed the course in the Spring of 1995.  After one full year of operation, Bo Miller reports that lightning damage has dropped to almost zero.  Bo enjoys talking about the solution that cost less than 6 months of lightning damage. You can call him at 704-896-2236.
