Step 1. Partitioning Your Data Center

Partition your data center by identifying groups of equipment within your data center that have similar requirements, keeping in mind future expansion.

In most cases you will build out your data center as a single partition because all the equipment in your data center will have:

  • Similar power requirements (120 V, 3-Phase)
  • Similar back-up power runtime requirements
  • Similar redundancy requirements (N+1, 2 N+1)

Example: You plan to deploy 90 racks of equipment requiring 120V power, 10 minutes of runtime, and N+1 redundancy. This is one partition (Area 1).

Example: You also have a group of Telecom equipment requiring 3-phase power, 2 hours of runtime, and 2 N+1 redundancy. This is a second partition (Area 2).
